Mobilegeddon!!!
Is your website mobile-friendly, or responsive? Do you have a standalone mobile website?
Google has announced some MAJOR changes to its algorhythm for mobile search results, effective on April 21st. According to Google, nearly 50% of ALL global web browsing now occurs on mobile devices, whether they be tablets or smartphones. Since mobile web browsing is now so prevalent, Google is giving higher search rankings to websites which are proven to be up-to-date, and compatible with people’s browsing habits.
So, if your website is not currently mobile-friendly, your search rankings on mobile devices will be greatly impacted; Google will stop showing your webpages in its search results! That means half of your potential audience will be lost. Based on their data, Google is predicting 60% of all mobile search results will be affected (meaning negatively affected if your site is not mobile-friendly).
If your site is not mobile ready, then you are not alone. SEO experts, Portent, recently tested the top 25,000 websites in the world and found that 40% of them are not mobile-friendly. That’s the top 25,000 most active sites in the world! We can only imagine the failure-rate numbers for small businesses.
Current clients of J.Osmond Design may be wondering if their website is affected. The good news is that we have been on top of mobile trends. If we developed your website within the past couple of years, then your site is likely 100% ready. We will be personally notifying any clients who have older websites built by us, as they will definitely be negatively impacted by Google’s policy change.
If you are concerned about the negative effect this change will have on your web traffic, please contact us. We’d be happy to help.
